Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 (Section Manager) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This leadership role is located in Redondo Beach, CA in support of the Composite Structures IPT on the F-35 program . This is a hand-on management role with approximately 80% engineering/20% functional work.Key Responsibilities Include:

Lead a section of 10-20 composite designers located in Redondo Beach, CA

Perform functional management duties, including the following: Conduct employee performance assessments, career development discussions, staffing forecasts, and assimilate new members to the Composite Design team

Process oversight, participation in the performance review process, management of personnel records and participation in corrective or disciplinary actions

Staffing responsibilities to include hiring, recruiting of personnel, and working to ensure that engineers with the appropriate skills and experience are deployed

Develop, manage, and brief programmatic status and performance measures in support of recurring reviews with NG leadership and industry partners

Collaborate closely with the production line and provide solutions to producibility issues

As a design leader/manager you will conduct design reviews, provide technical design related feedback to the design staff's proposed change solutions with the intent to improve proposed design solutions

Participate in cross functional teams to improve program processes

Identify risks and issues and coordinate with project teams to mitigate and retire risks

Conduct root cause and corrective action analysis and define/execute corrective action plans to address quality escapes

Travel to other Northrop Grumman and/or customer sites as required

Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 9 years of related professional/military experience; OR Master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 7 years of professional/military experience

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Current, in-scope DoD Secret clearance (or higher)

Leadership experience in a people leadership role or matrixed environment

Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Experience with CAD tools (preferably CATIA V5)

Experience working on the F-35 or other military program

Experience developing and coaching for leadership and performance

Experience with systems engineering processes

Previous experience dealing with risks and issues

Cost Account Manager (CAM) & Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) proficiency

Salary Range: $138,100 - $207,100The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
