Mountaineers Fire Crew, Inc. is hiring to fill seasonal, on-call wildland firefighter positions for the upcoming season and beyond. No experience is required. Positions are available for inexperienced candidates, experienced firefighters, and chain saw operators. Entry Level / Refresher Training and the Work Capacity Test (3-mile walk with a 45-pound weight load within 45 minutes or less) may be obtained from any NWCG certified provider or at no cost from the company (time will not be compensated).

Compensation:

Entry level base pay is $26.48/hour, with an additional $4.98/hour paid on the first 4 hours worked in a work week, for a total of $31.46/hour.

Overtime is paid on all hours worked over 8 in a calendar day. Hours worked over 8 and up to 12 are paid at 1.5 times the base hourly rate ($39.72/hour). Hours worked over 12 in a calendar day are paid at double the base hourly rate ($52.96/hour).

Base hourly rates may be higher depending on a candidate's experience and qualifications.

Company drivers are paid an additional hourly incentive.

Additional training and promotion opportunities are available through continued employment with the company.

Successful candidates will:

be 18 years of age or older and legally authorized to work in the United States;

live within 6 hours of our base in Redding, CA or relocate to the area for the season;

complete all required training and pass the Work Capacity Test;

be able to hike steep terrain and safely and effectively use hand tools and other equipment to suppress wildfire;

respond immediately and consistently to dispatch calls for incident assignments which typically last two weeks but which may be extended up to 30 days, not including travel; and

be team- and safety- oriented, flexible, able to take direction well, and willing to tolerate harsh working conditions while on emergency assignments.
