What you’ll do:
Safely handle and identify injured and orphaned wild animals
Determine and monitor patient diets and housing
Prepare, administer and follow daily schedules for diets and medications
Daily cleaning of patients, equipment and the facility
Provide continued care for animals at the Rehabilitation Center-evaluating for transfers to satellite care and/or release
Respond to rehabilitation related questions and provides general information to the public regarding local wildlife
Administer medications and injections
Safely use restraint and handling techniques, as well as general animal safety practices, including recognizing animal behavior patterns
Maintain detailed written medical records and patient updates in the medical data base (WRMD)
What we’re looking for:
High School graduation or equivalent required; advanced learning certificate(s) or degree in related field preferred.
Prior experience in an animal welfare and/or shelter environment or equivalent field, with wildlife experience preferred.
A general knowledge of rehabilitation, conservation and federal/state wildlife laws preferred.
In accordance with CDC and ACIP guidelines, must be willing to follow appropriate rabies pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) vaccine and titer check recommendations.
May be required to obtain Vet Assistant Controlled Substances Permit (VACSP) in accordance with the provisions of the CA Veterinary Medical Board.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.
Location & Hours: Based at our Ramona Campus. This position works 40 hours a week, beginning in March 2024 and will last until approximately September 2024.
Pay: Starting range is between $17.75 – $19.75 per hour. The actual hourly rate is determined by your related education and experience.
