Qualifications

Possess strong written and oral communication skills

Able to work flexible hours

Possess proficient computer skills; able to type quickly and navigate e-mail systems and electronic medical records;

Experience working in a crisis setting

Able to work as a team player, adapt to changes, and to work in a multidisciplinary team setting

Able to establish strong rapport with clients and develop a positive connection

Able to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients under any and all circumstances

Requirement:

CPR and First Aid Certification to be completed at regular intervals [usually two years]

Job Skills and Knowledge

Admission

Facilitates the client’s initial BAM survey within 24 hours of admission.

Reviews intake and consent forms with new clients and collects signatures within 24 hours of admission.

Conducts initial search of client’s property in accordance with the Search Policy and documents and stores client belongings in accordance with the Safeguarding Client Property Policy; completes all other facility and client belonging searches at the request of the Program Director or their designee.

Detoxification

Conducts, documents, and uploads client vitals, COWS, CIWAs, and 30-minute monitoring logs in accordance with the Detoxification policy and IMS Policy.

Medication

Follows the procedures outlined in the Medication Use Policy and in the Medication section of the Behavioral Health Technician Training Manual located in the BHT office in all aspects of medication including: supervision of self-administration of medications, storage of medications, medication refusals, adverse drug reactions, and documentation of medication transfers, receipts of medications, discharge of medications, and destruction of medications.

Collects signatures on the Medication Consent Form for each newly prescribed medication for each client under the BHTs supervision prior to client self-administration of a new medication; escalates client medication questions to the designated medical personnel.

Ensures medication errors do not occur; immediately reports medication errors to the Lead Behavioral Health Technician and completes a critical incident report.

Notifies the designated medical personnel of all needed medication refills when the remaining medication count falls below 10 remaining doses, allowing enough time for the client to receive their medication refill without a lapse.

Client Care

Provides direct care and 24/7 observation of clients while on shift; completes and uploads the appropriate monitoring logs for each client under the BHT’s supervision daily.

Responds to client inquiries with accurate information and refers to the appropriate staff if the client inquiry is outside the scope of their knowledge.

Facilitates physician appointments in the BHT office with the approved medical provider at the direction of the Medical Director, or their designee.

Performs UA (urine analysis) and BA (breathalyzer analysis) testing at the direction of the Program Director, or their designee, upon return from pass, and in accordance with the Drug Screening Policy.

Documents shift notes prior to the end of each shift; relays any pertinent information to the incoming Behavioral Health Technician at the time of shift change.

Ensures the facility remains clean and free of any safety hazards; reports any safety concerns or needed repairs immediately to the Lead Behavioral Health Technician.

Informs the client’s Case Manager when clients deviate from their assigned program schedule for reasons such as refusal to participate or client illness.

Remains calm during crisis situations; calls 911 immediately if there is a medical emergency, begins CPR or First Aid if necessary, and immediately informs the supervising Lead Behavioral Health Technician.

Reports critical incidents to the supervising Lead Behavioral Health Technician, in accordance with the Critical Incident policy.

Transportation (If Applicable)

Follows procedures of the Client Transportation Policy, Transportation, Communication, and Vehicle Policy and in the Transportation section of the Behavioral Health Technician Training Manual located in the BHT office in all aspects of client transportation and operation of a Company vehicle.

Supervises clients that have been transported including, but not limited to: recreational activities, doctor’s appointments, and 12-step meeting.

Discharge

Completes appropriate non-clinical forms in the client record pertinent to the circumstances of the discharge: Leaving against medical advice (A.M.A ), Belongings Returned to Client, Discharge Medication Record, Discharge or Transfer Note, and BAM Survey.

Provides the client with previously reviewed clinical discharge documentation as directed by the client’s assigned Case Manager.

Employee Engagement and Other Duties

Attends team meeting, scheduled at regular intervals.

Knows and follows confidentiality law and procedures at all times, follows the company’s ethical code, and maintains appropriate boundaries with clients at all times.

Carries out other responsibilities as delegated by the Lead Behavioral Health Technician.
