JOB SUMMARY:
The Technician installs, modifies, repairs, tests and conducts service and maintenance of voice and data structured cabling systems to include Inside Plant, Outside Plant, Cable Pathways and D-marc Extensions. Copper and Fiber.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Physically install cat5e/6/6a and fiber optic structured cable distribution systems.
Installation of enclosures, racking, wire management, outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping, termination and testing/certifying including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards.
Terminate, assemble and install 8-pin modular connectors, patch panels, 66/110 blocks and light crimp connectors.
Fiber Optic cable expertise with all types of fiber and installation methods.
Fusion Splicing experience strongly considered.
Diagnose and correct copper and fiber malfunctions.
Accurately test copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment as necessary. Knowledge of Fluke DSX-8000 and Fluke Certifiber Pro certifiers as well as OTDR testing and analysis.
Experience with EMT, RMC, IMC and LFMC conduit installation as well as OSP conduit/cabling a plus.
Attend training and safety meetings.
Work safely at all times utilizing the necessary personal protection equipment.
Demonstrate safe working practices to other technicians.
Professional interaction with clients.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
Be able to perform all work duties for as described.
Removal and demolition of abandoned cables.
Provide dailies as necessary.
Communicate daily on project status, hours worked and materials needed.
Follow instructions given by supervisor and customer.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Possess a high level of independent judgment within established industry standards and procedures.
Minimum of 1-3 years of directly related experience.
Ability to work extended hours (overtime) as needed.
Position requires daily travel to worksites. We cover all of southern California.
Must be able to work safely following company policy/procedures on safety.
JOB SKILLS:
Strong command of communication cabling design and implementation including pathways.
Knowledge of TIA standards.
Knowledge of NEC and California Electrical Code.
Expertise in server rooms, data centers, MDF, IDF and MPOE.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties, employee is required to:
Stand, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; reach with hands and arms.
Able to work in awkward positions and climb ladders and / or scaffolding.
Able to safely lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to travel locally 100% of the time.
Must have the physical and mental capacity to effectively perform all essential functions described.
Requires making the same physical activities or mental activities over and over.
Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.
May be exposed to outside weather elements.
