In order to work as a security guard in California, you must be licensed by the BSIS (have a Guard Card). To earn your Guard Card, you must pass a course provided by a BSIS-licensed trainer.
Most employers will not even interview you without a guard card or if you are not already at least enrolled in a course.

$75, 8-hours Guard Card (Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force).
$200, Complete 40-hours Guard Card program (includes Pepper/OC Spray!).
$50, Annual Renewal/Refresher (Continuing Education).
$140, Exposed Firearms Permit (1 caliber).
