About the role:

The Director of Prospect Management and Strategy serves as a key architect in advancing Cal State Fullerton’s fundraising strategy through data-driven insights, targeted prospect research, and thoughtful pipeline development. This role leads the design and execution of a comprehensive prospect management system, leveraging advanced data tools and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to identify, analyze, and prioritize prospective donors across all colleges and programs. This position offers a distinctive opportunity to build and elevate a high-impact prospect management function from the ground up.

The team welcomes candidates with transferable experience who may be entering philanthropy or advancement for the first time. Success in this role will require a blend of analytical fluency and strategic collaboration, someone who can not only interpret and apply data but also work effectively across a diverse institutional landscape. Curiosity, initiative, and persistence in uncovering insights from data are essential, as is the ability to cultivate strong relationships and serve as a trusted partner to fundraisers and campus stakeholders.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $115,000- 125,000 annually.

How you will spend your time:

Direct and refine the university’s prospect management strategy for major donor cultivation and solicitation.

Develop and apply data analytics, modeling, and AI tools to enhance prospect identification and pipeline development.

Collaborate closely with fundraising and advancement teams to align strategic initiatives with campaign goals.

Produce regular reports and insights to inform development strategies and leadership decisions.

Supervise the Research Associate and manage performance, project assignments, and deliverables.

Build and maintain systems for continuous evaluation of donor engagement and giving potential.

Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics, and data integrity.

What you will bring:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Minimum 4 years of experience in development prospect research or a related field involving strategic research, data analysis, or intelligence gathering to support fundraising or organizational goals.

Advanced skills in data analysis, modeling, and reporting (Excel, Raiser’s Edge NXT, Advance, etc.).

Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, and ability to manage multiple complex projects.

Strong communication skills and proven ability to build effective teams.
