Job Summary
Monitor, repair, or replace steam and hot water heating systems, broken valves, pipes, and faucets, boiler systems. Operate and monitor pressure boiler systems and maintain proper steam pressure and water levels, Cleans, oils, and adjust boiler equipment. Repair or replace thermostats, gas valves, and damper motors on boilers. Monitor water and sewer lines, and make minor repairs when necessary. Install, replace, or repair air conditioning systems, exhaust fans, compressors, cooling units, and heat exchangers. Work from blueprints and sketches. Perform general maintenance involving replacing filters, routine oiling of parts and motors, adjusting belts, cleaning, and preventative maintenance.
Repair and service motor appliances, generators, control equipment, switches, fans, and pneumatic heating systems.
Crafts workers may regularly supervise and instruct assistants to ensure that the work assignments of the group are carried out. While the primary assignment is to perform skilled journey level work, incumbents may spend a minor percentage of time requesting materials and making time and material estimates for jobs.
