Hospitality Specialist

The Hospitality Generalist plays a crucial role at New Camaldoli Hermitage. This position performs general tasks within the cloister and retreat house, as assigned by the general manager, with a focus on housekeeping, hospitality, and kitchen assistance. This position reports first to the general manager, who will designate the daily or weekly department assignments.

In this role, the hospitality generalist must be versatile, reliable, and able to multitask effectively across various job functions. This position receives specific daily direction and supervision from the appropriate department’s manager or lead. This position works closely with other staff, and occasionally with members of the monastic community in executing daily tasks that change/flex as Hermitage needs change on a daily or weekly basis.

Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Housekeeping

- Clean & prepare guest rooms and private hermitages according to standards as directed by the housekeeping lead.

- Wash, dry and fold laundry from the retreat house.

- Maintain food and other supplies in retreat house kitchen and private hermitages.

- Other housekeeping related tasks as assigned by the housekeeping lead.

Kitchen Utility

- Perform Kitchen Utility assignments as outlined on job duty posting on the kitchen bulletin board.

- Follow direction of Cook on duty

Bookstore Attendant

- Welcome guests and visitors to bookstore and be a positive and welcoming representative of the Hermitage to all who come to the store.

- Check guests in and out as needed.

- Process sales in the store and answer inquiries in person or by phone.

- Other duties as assigned by the bookstore manager or guest master.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

- General experience in basic housekeeping, kitchen work, customer service, and driving.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions closely without continual supervision.

- Good physical stamina to handle various tasks that may require lifting and bending.

- Outstanding customer service skills.

- Excellent communication skills.

- Flexibility to work in changing environments and to adapt to changing work requirements.

Education and certifications/licenses

- Minimum high school diploma, or equivalent.

- Additional certifications related to job duties may be advantageous.

- Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

- Knowledge of Spanish is desired but not required.

Pay and Benefits

- Pay based on experience and skillset, beginning at minimum wage (currently $16.50 per hour).

- Paid sick leave (10 days), paid vacation (10 days), and 10 paid holidays.

- Meals and on-site housing are provided for a nominal resource reimbursement fee (currently $65 per month).

- One tank of gas per month allowed for staff personal vehicles.

Ability to Relocate: Big Sur, CA 93920: Relocate before starting work (Required)
