I am looking for a long-term, live-in caregiver or team of caregivers to help with my 88-year-old mother who had a stroke. She also has dementia. Having a team of caregivers from the same family or social circle is preferable so they can rotate amongst each other, allowing everyone time off. Individual applicants will receive equal consideration. Afterall, if you're the one, you're the one, so don't hesitate to inquire!
Things to know:
My mother sleeps through the night, so you can too!
She is considered max assist, so you need to be skilled at bed baths, dressing, grooming, hygiene, changing briefs, feeding, meds, etc.
We will train on the Hoyer lift.
She goes to PT and OT once per week and you come with us. We use paratransit or the bus depending on location. No cost to you.
You help with home OT/PT exercises.
She goes to Cabrillo College, just a few blocks from us, for socialization and activities and you accompany her.
She likes going out to lunch (we pay for you) going to the library (there is one across the street from us,) going to downtown Santa Cruz to the monthly antique market, and Sunday ukeles on the beach.
She likes to “talk story” and reminisce about her childhood or things my sister and I did as kids.
My mother remains quick-witted, and on a good day, she may catch you off-guard with one of her snide comments. She is easy-going, good-natured, and has a good sense of humor, but can be stubborn at times.
You have a private room in a nice house close to the beach and walking distance to shops and coffee.
We feed you. I’m a good cook. But feel free to throw-down in the kitchen with your favorites! My mom eats anything.
You would share the large hall bath with me but are welcome to shower in the master bath since my mother is unable to use the shower.
We have a housekeeper once a week, so you only need to clean up after yourself.
You will be part of our family, so you have access to the common areas and the laundry room.
We have a fat, spoiled cat. You have to be nice to her because she writes the checks.
You don’t need a car.
