ASRC Federal Data Solutions (AFDS) provides comprehensive IT services to NASA Ames Research Center located in Mountain View, CA.We are looking for an IT Project Specialist to be a part of our operations on the Ames Consolidated Information Technology Services (ACITS) contract and provide support to the Human Systems Integration Division at NASA Ames. The successful candidate will provide ongoing support to maintain the Human Autonomy Teaming (HAT) Lab capabilities.The Human-Autonomy Teaming (HAT) Lab is responsible for developing ground control station infrastructure and human-autonomy teaming tools, addressing key challenges to the integration of large uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS).The position requires support for the Pathfinding for Airspace with Autonomous Vehicles (PAAV) initiative. This initiative focuses on developing, testing, and refining the technologies, procedures, and infrastructure necessary for safely operating autonomous vehicles in controlled airspace alongside manned aircraft. The PAAV initiative seeks to explore new air traffic management concepts and technologies to support the future of aviation.This successful candidate will work directly with researchers, NASA management, and other stakeholders, to ensure requirements meets the needs of the research and end users. Design and implement ground control station infrastructure and other critical technologies to support autonomous vehicle operations. Background or interest in Aeronautics, Human Systems Interaction, or HAT research areas useful / desirable.Additional responsibilities:

Provides support to maintain project goals and meet required project deadlines. Duties include providing logistical and administrative support for organizing and coordinating project meetings, activities, conferences, workshops, and other scientific working activities and sessions.

Maintains aeronautics knowledge of project needs, logistics and communication assisting project team success.

General support for HAT Lab tests and experiments as needed.

Design and implement ground control station infrastructure and other critical technologies to support autonomous vehicle operations.

Create and refine safety protocols, standards, and technologies to ensure that autonomous vehicles can operate reliably in various airspace environments

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in a similar role may be substituted in place of degree.

Proven experience in developing and executing test plans and simulations with a focus on human factors aerospace systems

Familiarity with tools and strategies to facilitate effective collaboration between human operators and autonomous systems, ensuring safety and efficiency.

Eligibility to work in the US (Must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident)

Desired Skills:

Experience addressing the challenges and barriers to integrating autonomous vehicles into the existing systems

Experience in providing project business support with a focus on applying human factors principles to aircraft, including electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles.

In-depth understanding of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and their application to aerospace projects.
