Property Control Assistant [Bargaining Unit]Job ID5845LocationSLAC - Menlo Park, CAFull-TimeRegularSLAC Job PostingsPosition Overview:SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is currently seeking a Property Control Assistant to join our Property Control Department. As a member of this team, you will play a crucial role in the collection of excess equipment and materials from various departments and across the SLAC campus. Identifying tags that need to be removed from each asset coming down to the Salvage department. The managing of excess inventory and making sure each pallet is labeled correctly before shipping out as scrap to our local scrap vendors. Your responsibilities will also include but not limited to, maintaining accurate data entry records and manual records of SLAC assets and materials being transfer to the Salvage department. Must follow established policies and practices including all safety rules and requirements.As part of the Property Control and Operations Support team (Salvage Department), you will provide comprehensive support in property control operations and logistics when needed. Your work will be carried out under the direction of a lead or supervisor.SLAC is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory operated by Stanford University and based in Menlo Park, CA.Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

Warehouse Duties: Remove property control tags from servers, laptops, external hard drives, desktops, and other tagged assets. Ensure all barcodes and asset tags are removed before shipping items out as scrap material. Segregate surplus property for salvage and dispose of it in the correct bins. Collaborate with co-workers as needed.

Excess Equipment Collection and Evaluation: Collect, receive, and accept excess equipment, furniture, and materials from various departments. Evaluate items and stage them for redistribution, shipping, or disposal.

Surplus Property Management: Assist in managing surplus or nonessential property. Collect excess equipment and material from departments across campus. Separate salable items from those designated for scrap or recycling. Document any discrepancies between collection reports and actual materials received.

Additional Tasks: Support customers with bins during excess property pickups. Respond to salvage-related requests when necessary. Conduct walkthroughs at custodian sites. Perform general housekeeping in all yards (e.g., weed control, sweeping).

Deliver, Identify, Tag, and Perform Inventory of Equipment and Materials if Applicable: Responsible for identifying, tagging, and maintaining records of SLAC equipment and materials.

move, handle, and haul furniture and other items using hand trucks and forklifts if applicable.

Assist with other related activities as assigned.

Adhere and comply with all safety rules and guidelines.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

High School diploma or a combination of education and relevant experience in property control and warehouse support duties.

Demonstrated experience in handling excess property disposal and management, including:

Familiarity with various configurations of computers, servers, etc., for removing hard drives for shredding.

Recognition of scrap metals and hazardous materials.

Evaluation of excess items and separation of salable items.

Determination of materials suitable for scrap or recycling, along with accurate reporting on collected materials.

Proficient in using hand tools, pallet jacks, electric, and gas forklifts equipped with rotator forks.

Capable of driving both electric and gas vehicles.

Able to handle bulky, delicate materials effectively.

Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written).

Proficient in using MS Office Suite software.

Effective interpersonal skills for providing excellent customer service.

Certificates and Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Non-commercial Driver’s License.

Physical requirements and working conditions:

The expected pay range for this position is 32.86 (Step 1) - $39.74 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
