Status/Classification: Hourly, Part-Time with possibility of developing into Full-Time
JOB SUMMARY:
As Gallery Manager, responsible for the look and profitability of the Gallery Store, including planning, purchasing, pricing, customer service, point-of-sale system, inventory control and merchandising. This position also provides support to the Executive Director, manages student enrollments, provides customer service for guests, students, instructors, and visitors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Gallery Manager
Merchandises and organizes the store and galleries with new objects or collections, either on loan, purchase, consignment, or by in-kind donation, which serve to meet the artistic and strategic goals of MAC.
Provides all visitors to the Gallery Store with excellent customer service.
Selects vendors and merchandise for the Store.
Sets prices and merchandises all product in the store to ensure that goals in revenue, capture rate, margin, and average sale are met or exceeded.
Designs and implements a series of changing creative displays that showcase merchandise.
Purchases all fixtures and supplies for the store, as needed.
Serves as liaison between the Store and other departments on a variety of projects including merchandise for special exhibitions and custom products.
Prepares and approves purchase orders and invoices for submission to accounting office.
Conducts an annual inventory and maintains periodic inventory counts.
Collaborates with the team to achieve the best possible marketing strategy for the store.
Handles inquiries from researchers, the public, potential buyers, and artists regarding the Gallery Store.
Trains and schedules staff and volunteers as applicable.
Registrar
Maintains registration database so it is organized, information is accurate, consistent, and up-to-date
Adds, edits, and archives classes in a timely manner
Notifies Program Manager promptly about low class enrollments so that marketing or cancellation decisions can be made
Communicates with students and website manager regarding class cancellations or changes; processes refunds as needed.
Prepares class student lists for instructor and bookkeeper
Other
Participate in meetings as requested
Keeps the Google calendars up-to-date
Maintains good communication with bookkeeper regarding all financial transactions
Responds to emails and telephone calls in a timely manner
Maintains organized filing system and purges according to retention schedule
Other duties and tasks as assigned
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field.
A minimum of two years of management experience in a retail store
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and time-management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; solid aptitude for customer service.
Must live locally and have a reliable vehicle
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Database management experience a plus
Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
High degree of skill in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Reliable, punctual, and ability to use tact and diplomacy in a variety of situations
Must be action-oriented and can work independently and as a team player
A sense of humor and a positive attitude
Physical Demands:
Work will be performed sitting at a desk/chair or standing while speaking and interacting with clients. The position will require excellent finger dexterity to operate normal office equipment and systems. Must be able to lift 15 pounds and be able to meet the physical demands of special event production and execution.
