Garden Educator - Noyo Food Forest

Job Summary:

The Noyo Food Forest Learning Garden Educator is a year-round, part time position requiring dedication to our local food system and passionate determination to engage local youth with the production of organic fruits and vegetables for our Farm to School program, Summer Internship program, and other educational endeavors. The Garden Educator receives direction from and collaborates with the Noyo Food Forest Board of Directors and Garden Manager on curriculum development and education objectives.

The Garden Educator develops and runs the 6-week summer internship program.

In collaboration with the Garden Manager these roles are responsible for cultivating the garden in a mindful, sustainable, and organic way using best regenerative farming approaches and practices. We are a Learning Garden first and, as such, our gardening practices must reflect these values.

This is an in the garden position, 20-30 hours/week. Starting hourly rate: $25.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Develop a working curriculum wherein the garden is the classroom, in collaboration with the Garden Manager.

Develop the curriculum for and direct the 6-week Noyo Food Forest summer internship program.

Act as the informative interface between the community and the garden. Such as promoting the various garden

programs to prospective students & volunteers.

Bring ideas and execute garden workshops and experiences with community partners.

The Garden Educator must be able to work closely with the Garden Manager to impart knowledge & skills, collaborate

on curriculum development as needed, and assist with garden objectives as required.

Maintains a collaborative relationship with FBHS faculty to use the Learning Garden as an outdoor classroom and

hands-on learning environment for class work and projects.

Present regular progress and plan updates to the Board of Directors and communicate on a regular basis with the Office

Administrator and Garden Manager about all garden matters and needs.

Maintain documentation of curriculum and programs, students and volunteers, and educational garden activities.

Interaction with the public, volunteers, and students is required.

Performing other related duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum requirements include: a high school diploma, CA driver’s license, TB Test, background check and fluency in

English both spoken and written.

This position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Hours are 20-30 hours per week.

Starting hourly rate of $25. Subject to employee performance rate can/will increase over time.

Location: 300 A Dana Street (on the north side of FBHS). Must be able to work in The Learning Garden and with

people.
