Quality Control Technician

The Quality Control Technician will be responsible for overseeing quality-related projects at the MSC-LA (Whittier facility). This role will work very closely with Customer Service, Quality, and Operations Teams to achieve cross functional collaborative goals.

Supports production and customer service needs through laboratory testing, troubleshooting, and technical consulting. Monitors supplier compliance, customer complaints, and ensures timely response to non-conforming materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts verification checks on defined key commodities and maintains records of those checks.

Daily MRB meetings to review disposition of material.

Compiles daily rework spreadsheet and sends to the customer service team with detailed findings.

Works in conjunction with the QAM/customer service team on solutions to customers’ complaints and feedbacks.

Compiles daily scrap spreadsheet and sends to the QAM.

Releases coil for reworks and or scrap.

Ensures that coils are removed and placed in the proper staging area.

Supports QAM with writing daily external notifications and relay information to the customer service team.

Transfers customer production photos to the server on a daily basis.

Tests and releases paint and records test results.

Prepares and test analytical measurements such as, color matching, adhesion, hardness, gloss measurements among other supporting equipment.

Assists with root cause analysis resolution for line application problems.

Conducts preparatory work on supplier claims and coordinates with the QAM.

Performs quality testing and carry out inspections to meet organization standards.

Facilitates root cause and corrective actions to assure product meets full specification.

Works closely with the QAM regarding specific information relating to product information and production.

Calibrates instruments as needed and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, and report findings to Quality Management.

Works as a team under the supervision of the QAM.

Maintains good housekeeping practice in the quality area and lab.

Punctuality and dependable attendance are essential.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

To perform this job the Quality Control Technician must be able to safely and effectively use the following tools:

Safety and protective equipment

Lab equipment including ovens and presses

Power shear, foot shear, and hand shear

Computer systems

Forklift and pallet jacks

Safety Data Sheets

Operate and read calipers

Rockwell scale

Dial indicators and tape measure

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates or Bachelors in a science field and two years of laboratory experience preferred and a basic understanding of coatings/polymers/material science.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documentation such as technical specifications, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports. Ability to effectively communicate verbally to other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform accurate calculations using basic arithmetic concepts (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication), whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform basic measurements.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must have experience with Excel and other Office Suite tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply understanding based on experience to carry out instructions given in written, oral, numeric or diagram form. Ability to resolve complex problems involving a large number of variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to lift up to 50 lbs., reach with hands and arms; climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and walk.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet, humid, and hot conditions, toxic or corrosive chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and high places. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
