We are currently hiring for two Level 3 Mechanics to support our Santa Fe Springs Operations. This position will be working swing shift Sunday - Thursday from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm.

Pay Range: $30-$35 per hour based on experience.

Position Summary:

This position will be responsible and accountable for providing quality mechanical repairs and maintenance work up to their level of certification, utilizing all resources available within the shop area. This Mechanic performs a full range of maintenance functions involving mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic components. This position represents the Journeyman level class in this series and should be able to address any shop repairs to all equipment as needed.

Responsibilities:

The Mechanic Level 3 may be assigned one or more duties. These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

-Disassembles and performs partial or complete overhaul of engines, transmissions, differentials other assemblies and sub-assemblies.

-Uses gauges, special tools, and specialized equipment to diagnose mechanical failure or problems (such as electronic diagnostic equipment, infrared machine for exhaust emissions, and air conditioning recharging machine).

-Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle problems.

-Makes wheel alignments and balances wheels.

-Installs and/or adjusts brakes, heaters and defrosters.

-Replaces worn or broken parts.

-Learns new technology and repair and service procedures and specifications.

-Repairs automotive equipment (such as alternators, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, pumps, and carburation systems).

-Operates vehicles to diagnose problems and validate that repairs have been completed.

-Constructs, maintains or services shop equipment as necessary.

-Repairs equipment and machinery as necessary (gasoline and diesel engines)

-Dispenses fuel, checks and refills fluid levels and changes oil and filters, as necessary

-Makes minor adjustments and repairs on equipment (such as repairing and/or replacing tires, head and tail lamps, muffler clamps, windshield wipers, and brakes and suspension)

-Checks equipment for defects (such as cracked or broken hoses or belts, worn tires, and inoperative lights)

-Removes and replaces batteries

-Oils and greases equipment

-Test drives vehicles to assure proper working order, and delivers vehicles for servicing or refueling

-Cleans vehicles, garage area and maintains shop equipment

-Disassembles and cleans vehicle parts

-Fixes door handles and locking mechanisms.

-Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions

-Diagnoses and repairs electronic controlled equipment components; Fuse blocks, BCM, PCM and ABS systems

-Diagnose, maintain, repair and recondition hydraulic systems; diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles, drive train components, belts, gears and chain drives

-Trains staff, as directed, in specific task, job practices and procedures of auto/equipment repair to improve and maintains the performance levels of these employees.

-May perform moderate supervisory roles when Fleet Manager or Fleet Lead are not accessible.

Driving approximately 10% of time.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. The individual in this position must possess the following qualifications:

-High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

ASE Certifications can be retrieved after hire.

-6-8 ASE Certifications are expected to be held and maintained. The five (5) preferred ASE Certifications (A4 Suspension and Steering, A5 Brakes, A6 Electrical, A7 Heating and AC, A9 Light Vehicle Diesel Engines) any remaining combination is acceptable.

-Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams, managers, supervisors, and external customers.

-Strong organization skills and attentiveness to detail.

Ability to maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times.

-Satisfactory driving record in accordance with Company Driving Policy.

-Current state driver’s license.

-At least 5+ years of experience repairing and performing preventative vehicle maintenance on emergency vehicles or equivalent.
