We are looking for a Quality Control Tech in our Los Angeles branch. This position requires someone with at least 2 years of experience working at a camera rental house as a QC tech. Prep tech experience is also acceptable, or 4 years working in the field as an AC on professional shoots. The position requires knowledge and experience servicing cinema camera equipment by ARRI, Sony, Red, Canon and others, along with having experience servicing camera-related accessories, including: heads, monitors, wireless video, wireless focus, making cables, etc.
The QC Tech is responsible for ensuring an outstanding client experience by offering first-class customer service and technical support. The QC tech must guarantee equipment is ready, complete and up to our incredibly high QC standards for client preps and pick-ups. Duties include, but are not limited to, servicing cinema camera gear, servicing cinema camera accessories, repairing equipment, keeping track of the status of our equipment repairs, communicating to vendors about repairs, making cables as needed, and processing missing and damages from clients. Although this job is in the QC department, you will be asked to help other departments. At times you will be asked to scan equipment for jobs & branch transfers, ship and receive equipment, pull equipment for preps and help with preps. All our departments help one another out when needed.
This position requires a self-starter with a positive, go-getter attitude, ready to tackle multiple projects simultaneously. A HIGH attention to detail is required. The candidate should have excellent social skills when communicating with clients and fellow employees, and carry themselves with a professional demeanor at all times. The position demands a confident individual who can execute any task that is given to them. We are looking for a self-motivated person who will be highly productive without the constant need to be managed. You must be a problem solver able to diagnose and troubleshoot technical questions from clients. Regularly lifting heavy equipment cases is also a large part of the job, so physical strength and stamina are a requirement for the position.
Applicants will work a daily 8-hour schedule, with a one hour unpaid lunch break in between. Overtime will be expected on busier days. Weekend on-call availability will be required when necessary for client pickups, preps, or drop offs. All applicants will need to be available on those scheduled weekends, which are alternated between themselves and other full-time employees on a rotating schedule.
Responsibilities and Duties
Exceed customer expectations by offering exceptional customer service
QC all equipment returning from jobs to make sure it is in good working order and re-kit that equipment to be ready for the next client
Identify equipment that needs to be repaired, log damaged equipment returning from a job, repair damaged equipment, send damaged equipment to a vendor if we cannot repair it in house, submit parts / repair requests to our Purchasing Department, reach out to vendors on the status of equipment repairs, checking our repair log daily to follow up on equipment that need to be repaired
Help on the prep floor with any technical issues that might arise
Troubleshoot technical issues with clients on the phone or via email as needed, including after our regular operating hours
Making cables and learning how to make specialty cables we do not normally carry
At times you will be asked to help with the shipping & receiving of equipment, shipping & receiving equipment transfers from branch to branch, create missing reports for returning jobs, help pull / prepare equipment for preps, and help with preparing appropriate shipping documents,
At times you will be asked to help in the process of unloading/loading trucks arriving or departing and assist with any equipment deliveries to customers if needed
Be on call during the weekend on a rotating basis for any client pickups, preps, or drop offs
Perform other tasks as directed by the Los Angeles S&R & QC Manager
Qualifications and Skills
2 years of experience working at a camera rental house as a QC tech, prep tech is also acceptable, or 4 years working in the field as an AC on professional shoots
Exceptional customer service skills with a strong sense of urgency
Ability to work quickly while also maintaining a strong attention to detail
Excellent communication skills in person, on the telephone and in writing
Exhibit sound and accurate judgment
Positive attitude and a great team player
Able and willing to cover work in other departments as needed

A passion for digital cinema equipment, electronics, and technology, and for learning new processes and technologies
Computer literate with Mac and PC
A strong working knowledge of Filemaker is a plus

Compensation: $22- $25/hr depending on experience.
