MD Stainless Services is a specialty contractor providing design, engineering, fabrication and installation of hygienic systems for the pharmaceutical, biotech, food and beverage industries. The Company’s primary products and services include process design and engineering, process piping installations and custom fabrications. MD was founded in 1988 and is based in Downey, California.
We are looking to hire a Controller who will play a major part in our growth, development and future planning. The Controller position will report to the General Manager. We are seeking a true business partner to the General Manager who has the ability to implement change and drive efficiencies within the Company.
Key objectives
To lead the Finance and Accounting Team (team of 3)
To ensure timely and accurate month-end close process and financial reporting
Establish finance as a true ‘business partner’ by better integrating finance throughout the business through the provision of quality, timely and accurate information and analysis, highlighting issues and trends.
Work with the finance and management teams to ensure that the financial controls are sufficiently robust for the pace of growth and change which the Company is experiencing currently and expects to face in the future.
Streamline the financial systems and processes currently underpinning the Company’s operations (i.e., estimating, project tracking and accurate job costing within the Company’s accounting system)
To support the General Manager and Operations Manager as required
Optimize existing monthly reporting and develop quarterly board reporting templates
Specific responsibilities
Ownership of the month-end close process, balance sheet reconciliations, MD&A, forecasting, planning and internal and external reporting (including preparation of quarterly reports to the board)
Responsible for calculating monthly revenue recognition based on percent complete methodology
Identifying, implementing & leading efficient financial and operational processes to achieve sustainable growth
Overseeing the finance function, accounts payable & accounts receivable; reviewing, improving & streamlining accounting & financial management processes
Work with the senior management team in leading the development and implementation of short- and medium-term strategic and operational plans
Ownership of the financial models as well as the forecasting and annual budgeting process
Ensure timely reporting of all financial information and adherence to covenants
Treasury and cash flow management & reporting
Help manage relationships & contractual agreements with external partners & suppliers
Key Requirements:
Fully Qualified CPA or equivalent
Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and revenue recognition processes
Proven experience as a controller or equivalent senior-level finance role
Experience with project-based businesses and billing practices
Experience with contracting, process piping or related industry firms
Gravitas and the ability to interact with a very senior board of directors and industry leaders
Highly developed Excel skills and experience
Ability to work independently by default, and take the initiative to respond to changing situations and priorities with a high sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
Experience of working in a PE-backed environment
Ability to consolidate financial statements is a plus
