About the Role
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day fiscal operations of StrengthUnited. This role is critical in managing financial compliance, grant funding, and budget forecasting while supervising a small accounting team. If you bring a strong foundation in nonprofit and grant accounting, a passion for mission-driven work, and a collaborative spirit- this opportunity is for you! What You’ll Be Doing:
Manage accounting operations, including payroll processing and general ledger maintenance
Oversee financial aspects of federal, state, and local grants, ensuring compliance with funding requirements
Prepare monthly financial reports, grant billing documentation, and internal/external financial analyses
Assist with program and grant budget development and forecasting
Supervise and train accounting staff; maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures
Coordinate with external auditors for annual and grant-specific audits
Collaborate with CSUN and funders to ensure all compliance and audit requirements are met
Monitor cash flow and support long-term financial planning
What We’re Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role
Nonprofit accounting experience
Demonstrated experience managing government (federal, state, and local) grants
Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost allocation principles
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office
Ability to lead, communicate clearly, and juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA or MBA
Familiarity with OMB Circulars and Uniform Guidance
Additional Requirements:
Criminal background and driving record checks
Access to a reliable vehicle, valid CA driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance
Must maintain personal cell phone for work-related communication
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and travel locally as needed
