Position Summary
Our Law Firm works in complex immigration family-based and removal defense immigration cases. Our current emphasis is on cases dealing with victims of crimes (U, VAWA, T visas) asylum seekers, and unaccompanied minors.
As Associate Attorney, you will report to the Sr. Associate Attorney, you will also manage your caseload, as well as client interaction, and can collaborate with our wonderful Immigration team of attorneys and legal assistants.
Primary duties assigned to the associate attorney include, but are not limited to, providing direct assistance in immigration cases, providing legal representation for diverse clients with complex immigration cases before USCIS and Immigration Court and State Court.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a sincere interest in family-based immigration and removal defense and especially someone that have a passion for representing minors.
This position will provide hands-on experience to new associates. We are looking for someone that wants to gain case management and courtroom experience and develop their verbal and writing skills.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Conduct legal review and management of immigration cases;
Represent non-detained individuals in removal proceedings the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
Represent client in front of U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services
Manage workload of cases
Prepare diverse immigration applications, cover letters, and briefs, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions
Review immigration applications/packets and make any necessary adjustments
Develop strategy and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony
Be willing to participate in different immigration training
Prepare and submitting legal briefs for a variety of immigration cases
Maintain an active caseload to meet project deliverables
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Juris Doctor graduate with excellent credentials
An active member in a State Bar of California
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Experience assisting immigrant, limited English speaking and/or low-income clients
Experience appearing in immigration court preferred
Experience or familiarity with SIJS preferred.
Excellent legal writing, speaking, and organizational skills
Ability to communicate effectively with clients
Must speak Spanish fluently.
Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Availability and willingness to regularly travel within the county and state
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Access to reliable means of transportation required
