Job Title: General Carpentry Laborer
Location: San Gabriel Valley
Reports To: Site Supervisor
Job Overview:
The General Carpentry Laborer assists in the construction, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, tile, stone and wallboard using carpentry tools and equipment. This role involves various tasks to support the carpentry team, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
Basic Carpentry Tasks:
Assist in the construction and repair of wooden structures such as frameworks, stairways, door frames, and partitions.
Install structures and fixtures, including windows, frames, floorings, and trim.
Material Handling:
Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools.
Distribute building materials to the appropriate locations according to project plans and specifications.
Site Preparation and Clean-Up:
Prepare construction sites by removing debris and potential hazards.
Clean and maintain job sites, ensuring a safe and organized workspace.
Measurement and Cutting:
Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
Cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
Tool Maintenance:
Maintain and care for tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
Report any damaged or missing tools or equipment to the supervisor.
Assisting Skilled Carpenters:
Assist skilled carpenters in more complex tasks such as framing, roofing, and detailed finish work.
Follow instructions and detailed plans to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
Basic Masonry Work:
Perform basic masonry tasks such as spreading mortar, setting bricks, and finishing joints.
Repair and restore old masonry structures by removing damaged areas and replacing them with new materials.
Assist masons in laying bricks, blocks, and stones to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, and other structures.
Apply and smooth mortar or other mixtures to the work surface.
Tile Installation:
Cut and shape tiles to fit around obstacles and into odd spaces using hand and power tools.
Arrange tiles according to design plans, ensuring patterns are aligned and spaced evenly.
Apply adhesive, mortar, or other materials to the surface and position tiles.
Grouting and Finishing:
Apply grout between tiles, ensuring joints are filled and smooth.
Clean excess grout and polish tiles to achieve a finished look.
Apply sealants to protect tiles and grout.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and report any safety concerns to the supervisor.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Previous experience in carpentry or construction is preferred.
Basic knowledge of carpentry tools and materials.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
Good physical condition and stamina, with the ability to lift heavy materials and work in various weather conditions.
Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precise measurements and cuts.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and stand or kneel for extended periods.
May require evening or weekend work depending on project deadlines.
