Position Overview
As an HR Generalist, you’ll play a vital role in managing core HR functions across the organization. This role covers recruitment, onboarding, compliance, employee relations, payroll (including commissions), benefits, safety, HR reporting, and day-to-day administration. Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources Operations
Lead full-cycle recruitment and onboarding for exempt, non-exempt, and hourly staff.
Support managers with employee relations, performance management, and policy compliance.
Maintain and update employee records in our system.
Assist with employee training, development programs, and policy rollouts.
Help foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented workplace aligned with company values.
Payroll & Compensation:
Process in-house payroll using QuickBooks Payroll, including commission-based compensation for sales staff.
Accurately calculate and process commissions in compliance with company plans and California labor law.
Track, reconcile, and report on commission, bonus, and variable earnings.
Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including overtime, garnishments, and levies.
Manage time-off tracking, wage adjustments, payroll deductions, and leave balances.
Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax reports, including W-2s and wage statements.
Administer employee benefits including enrollments, changes, terminations, and open enrollment.
Workers' Compensation Management
Oversee the full Workers' Compensation program, including:
Negotiating annual insurance rates and renewals
Filing and managing claims from initial report through resolution
Acting as liaison with adjusters, providers, and injured employees
Preparing for and coordinating carrier audits
Support safety initiatives and accident investigations in collaboration with safety coordinators.
Recruitment & Retention:
Manage job postings, applicant tracking, background checks, and onboarding documentation.
Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to improve retention.
Partner with leadership on workforce planning and hiring strategies.
Qualifications:
2+ years of HR generalist experience (automotive, retail, or operational settings preferred)
Hands-on experience processing payroll in-house using QuickBooks Payroll
Proven experience handling commission payroll in a sales-driven environment
Strong understanding of California labor laws, wage/hour regulations, and compliance
Familiarity with payroll tax filings and HRIS systems
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and discreet with sensitive information
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
Automotive industry experience strongly preferred
