BPR Consulting Group (www.bpr-grp.com) is seeking an experienced Plans Examiner or Supervising Building Inspector with ICC Certification as a Building Official, to join our team as a Deputy Building Official working in the Los Angeles/South Bay Area. This position will provide you with an opportunity to utilize your skills to advance your career by gaining valuable building department management experience. This position can be a full-time or part-time opportunity for a qualified candidate. The qualified candidate will assist in planning and organizing all building division functions to include plan check, inspection, building permit issuance and will help enforce and interpret state and local building codes, ordinances, and regulations related to safety and occupancy of structures. The selected candidate will work under the general supervision of the City’s Building Official.

Successful 40.00candidates must possess the ability to work independently, communicate effectively and maintain professional working relationships with clients, coworkers, and permit applicants. Political awareness along with the ability to work with elected officials, City officials, coworkers, and the department customers will be essential to the success of the selected individuals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The qualified candidate will assist the Building Official in planning, organizing all building division functions that include plan check, inspection, building permit issuance and will enforce and interpret State of California and local building codes, ordinances, and regulations related to safety, construction, and occupancy of structures.

1. Manages Building Department operations for an assigned client agency.

2. Apply knowledge of building codes, policies, and procedures to the day-to-day functions of a building department.

3. Consults with engineers, architects, developers, contractors, and the public on construction and building code issues, responds to questions regarding codes and regulations.

4. Plan review of minor projects for residential and commercial building, alterations, remodels, and additions.

5. Performs field inspections on all phases of residential and commercial construction.

6. Issues Certificates of Occupancy for completed projects.

7. Create and maintain reports, plan review files, and inspection logs for all building projects.

8. Maintain clients permitting database.

9. Perform all work consistent with BPR’s and Clients policies and procedures.

10. Provide all services in an efficient, proactive, and client focused manner.

Desired Qualifications:

Three (3) plus years of experience as a building plans examiner or supervising building inspector for a local fire or building department or equivalent related experience.

Advanced knowledge of California Building Codes.

Experience in the interpretation and application of building codes.

Must possess a working knowledge of plan review and construction processes.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Building Official, Building Plans Examiner, Residential Plans Examiner, or Combination Building Inspector Certifications are desirable.

Knowledge of Federal, State, and Municipal rules, regulations and codes related to construction.

Current CA Driver’s License.

Good driving record.

Certification Requirements:

ICC Certified Building Official certification preferred

ICC Combination Inspector certification preferred

ICC Residential and Commercial Plans Examiner certifications preferred

CASp Certification is a plus

Professional Civil Engineer license is a plus

Education:

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Associate of Science degree in Engineering and Construction Technology is a plus, but not required.

Compensation:

This full-time or part-time position has a salary range of $40-60 per hour, based on experience, qualifications and certifications.
