POSITION INFORMATIONUnder general supervision, incumbents of this position use a letter, or sheet fed press to produce a variety of high-quality printed materials for the District Attorney's Office.Essential Job FunctionsOperates a large digital press (high speed programable color copier/printer) to create a large quantity of high-quality printed materials (e.g., murder books, training materials, telephone directories, brochures, business cards, posters, and pamphlets) requiring the printing of black and whites, multi-colors, large solids, continuous tones, half tones, and line work with visually perfect registration and ink distribution.Plans the layout and illustrations, selects the appropriate paper stock, creates print plates, and processes colors for the items to be printed in order to prepare proofs of the printed material used to obtain final approval from the requesting unit.Prints, binds, and finalizes print projects according to the job specifications (e.g., collating, stitching, folding, cutting, hole punching, and shrink wrapping) by using a variety of specialized machinery and equipment.Examines job orders to determine printing equipment operating time, quantity to be printed, and stock specifications; schedules workload and determines work priorities.Maintains printing equipment and other machinery by cleaning, lubricating, adjusting (e.g., pH and making minor repairs.Performs weekly inventories of printing supplies and submits order requests to the supervisor.Supervises the work of subordinate staff in the absence of the supervisor.RequirementsSELECTION REQUIREMENTSFour years of printing experience in the operation of offset presses, large-production level printers, digital presses, scanners, and bindery equipment, one year of which must have been in printing multi-colors, large solids, continuous tones, half tones and line work with accurate registration.
