Position description

The UCLA Department of Urology has an immediate Assistant/Associate Project Scientist position available for an ambitious independent Ph.D. researcher under the direction of Robert E. Reiter. The position will perform independent research focusing on exploring the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying prostate cancer, with a focus on translating new approaches and technologies for clinical diagnosis and therapy for urologic cancers. The Assistant Project Scientist will also be responsible for helping to supervise graduate and undergraduate student researchers, preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals. This position requires a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., molecular biology, cancer biology) and a minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral experience. The Assistant Project Scientist position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance. Step is commensurate with experience.Start Date: July 1, 2024The assigned project is focused on researching and developing potential targets of metastatic prostate cancer.Specific Responsibilities include:Responsibilities of this position include study design and execution, data acquisition and processing, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation. Oversee the training and mentoring of junior postdocs, technical staff, and graduate and undergraduate students. Overseeing collaborations with scientific community. Additional Duties: Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively. Ability to work independently on scientific projects. Assist with preparation of grant proposals. Preparation of manuscripts for publication in top-tier scientific journals. Required to communicate well with other scientists worldwide. Candidate should have 5 years research experience in an academic setting or equivalent. Broad-based experience in cellular and molecular biology with an emphasis on cancer biology. Experience in bioinformatics analysis. Experience in small animal surgical procedures preferred. The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision. Ability to help and train various personnel in data analysis and make significant contributions to the design and execution of other laboratory members' experiments.
