Wayland Industries is a family-owned supplier of branded, high-quality stainless steel hygienic fittings, valves, and tubing used in the food, beverage, dairy, and pharmaceutical processing industries. With a deep family history in the PVF industry, the company was founded in 2019 and is quickly becoming a leader in the industry by providing the highest quality stainless steel fittings, valves, and tubing to distributors throughout North America. The company has grown rapidly to three distribution centers since then, and plans to double in size in the next five years. The company’s success is generated from its emphasis on creating a highly collaborative and flexible company culture.

BASIC FUNCTION

The Quality Leader will manage all aspects of the Quality Assurance functions and report to the CEO. This role will be responsible for ensuring the successful development, implementation, and enforcement of quality processes and procedures for three distribution centers. The incumbent will manage communication around any product quality issues and create a formal response procedure that identifies the root cause and leads to corrective action. This incumbent will stay current on industry compliance standards to ensure the company continues providing the highest quality product to customers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

● Maintain and develop a Quality Assurance Program through inspection, testing, and record keeping programs

● Oversee CAD drawings; hire and oversee a part-time CAD Engineer

● Keep employees at all stocking locations current on inspection and sampling techniques under the quality procedures

● Develop internal and external product training programs

● Assist with identifying, qualifying, testing, and inspecting new product lines

● Assist with qualifying/auditing new overseas suppliers

● Communicate with customers/end-users as needed regarding any product quality issues

● Investigate product defects and/or failures to determine root cause and recommend modifications in processes, products, or quality standards as needed

● Create formal response procedure for customer/end-users regarding quality issues (root cause/corrective action)

● Communicate with factories as needed regarding any product issues

● Represent company at 3A Sanitary and ASME BPE meetings and conferences; attend select tradeshows

● Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards

CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES/SKILLS SOUGHT

● Excellent oral and written communication skills

● Ability to work autonomously

● Skilled in developing processes and procedures

● Capable of training and instructing others

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION SOUGHT

● 5+ years of experience in a relevant industry

● Bachelor’s degree

● Fundamental understanding of quality programs and statistical quality control techniques

● Knowledge of ASTM/ASME/ANSI Standards and material specifications relevant to the pressure vessel or piping/fittings industry

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Metallurgical knowledge and experience

● Mechanical engineering knowledge and experience

● Experience working with overseas factories
