Job description:
Sharp Capital, a privately held real estate investment and management firm, is hiring a Real Estate Bookkeeper / Full-Charge Property Accountant to join our finance team. This in-person role will report directly to our Controller and is responsible for all day-to-day accounting functions across a diverse real estate portfolio. We are seeking someone highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in real estate bookkeeping and property accounting.
Responsibilities – Day-to-Day
Accounts Payable:
Process vendor invoices and ensure proper coding to GL accounts and properties
Reconcile statements and resolve vendor inquiries
Prepare and process check runs and wire transfers
Accounts Receivable / Rent Collection:
Record rent receipts, track tenant payments, and apply cash to correct ledgers
Issue late notices, apply late fees, and track delinquencies
Coordinate with property managers on rent roll accuracy
Bank Reconciliations:
Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all operating and security deposit accounts
Investigate and resolve discrepancies
General Ledger & Journal Entries:
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and intercompany transfers
Maintain chart of accounts and ensure accurate property-level financials
Monthly Reporting:
Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and variance reports for each property
Reconcile CAM charges and track tenant reimbursements
Assist with budget-to-actual comparisons
Lease Administration Support:
Review leases to ensure billing terms are accurately captured
Maintain updated lease abstracts and tenant billing schedules
Property Tax, Insurance & Loan Payments:
Track and process timely payments of property taxes, insurance premiums, and debt service
Maintain escrow and reserve account activity logs
Year-End Support:
Prepare schedules for CPAs and assist with year-end audits and tax return prep
Maintain organized digital and physical files for all properties
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of property accounting or real estate bookkeeping experience required
Experience with real estate software (e.g., AppFolio, Yardi, QuickBooks, MRI, or similar)
Knowledge of GAAP and property-level accounting best practices
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.)
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple entities and deadlines simultaneously
Team player with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset
