Job Title: Radiological Technologist Training Liaison (NWS 00682)THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEARNorth Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions.Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day- to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.The National Ignition Facility (NIF) has an opening in the Photon Science Directorate for a Radiological Technologist Training Liaison to train and support recently appointed Radiological Instrument Technologists. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for training newer employees on radiological instruments and assist with troubleshooting. The successful candidate will have limited supervision and will not have delegated authority to make commitments on behalf of Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS). The successful candidate will work in radiological areas but will not be completing hands on work. Essential Duties
Transfer knowledge of NIF's radiological systems/equipment, protocols, and processes to other newly appointed technologists.
Support NIF effectively and autonomously to provide routine training of equipment and supporting protocols and processes and the ability to respond to emergent issues.
Provide theoretical and operational understanding of instrumentation and systems that are part of the NIF Radiological Operations monitoring and laboratory equipment.
Includes working with liquid scintillation counters, beryllium analytical systems, alpha-spectroscopy systems and gamma-spectroscopy systems within the Health Physics laboratory.
Within other areas of NIF, this includes stand-up personnel radiation monitors, area tritium monitors, gamma monitors, effluent-tritium monitoring systems and support equipment including the NIF Control Room Interface system (HMMS).
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of NIF's radiological systems and equipment.
Thorough knowledge of general radiological equipment including, fixed tritium monitors; effluent monitors; radiation monitors; contamination monitors; HP lab equipment, etc.
Ability to teach, train and mentor other peers.
Troubleshooting skills with the flexible availability to support emergent issues.
