The rotation is composed of multi phases, e.g. the Packaging Lab Testing phase, the Special Project phase, New Product Development (NPD) packaging development phase including DOE, equipment, process, design and shelf life qualifications.The testing phase will give the candidate first-hand experience with medical device package testing and test method validation (TMV), which is a fundamental building block for future professional packaging engineering responsibilities.The Special Project and NPD phase is an opportunity for a unique experience of either managing a project from start to finish or executing on a key deliverable for a larger effort. The project will provide experience directly applicable to future career opportunities in the highly sought after medical device packaging engineering specialty.This Co-Op is for Edwards corporate facility in Irvine, which will provide unique corporate culture experience and ability to learn and navigate in such environment.Summary:Edwards is offering a eight-month Co-Op position based at Edwards Lifesciences manufacturing facility in Irvine, CA.Testing Phase:The rotation starts with exposure to sterile barrier package testing in Edwards’ full service on-site packaging laboratory. During this phase of the rotation, the candidate will come to better understand and appreciate the concepts behind protective package design and validation.Special Project and NPD Phase:The special project phase will entail the management and completion of an assignment in support of either a new product development program or an advancement of a key technology research program. The special project will vary based on the business needs at the time of the co-op rotation.How you'll make an impact: (may vary based on assignment)
Perform package testing in accordance with Edwards test procedures
Assist Packaging Engineers with prototype development and/or manufacturing
Create design concepts in support of new package development or design improvement
Research and analyze methods, materials, equipment, or processes associated with a packaging technology development
Execute non-standard testing in support of an advanced packaging technology research project
Execute Installation, Operation, and Performance Qualifications on packaging equipment.
Execute DOE, Design Verification and/or Shelf life studies as needed.
What you'll need:To qualify for this Co-Op opportunity, the candidate must be:
Enrolled in an accredited 4-year University
Enrolled a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD-level engineering program for the entire duration of their internship, graduating December 2025 or later. Upon graduating, students are no longer eligible for an internship at Edwards.
Must be available to work full-time from June 2025 through December 2025
Must be pursuing a degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Technology, or related discipline.
In good scholastic standing (3.0+ GPA or equivalent).
Must not require company sponsorship for an employment-based visa now or in the future.
