Parts Room Attendant

Utilizing the RTA system, an inventory and maintenance program, the Parts Room Clerk is responsible for managing and maintaining inventory levels at the Fontana facility to support the maintenance and repair of vehicles, trucks, pumps, and other equipment. This role oversees upcoming Preventative Maintenance (PM) tasks, coordinates PM schedules with dispatch, and organizes them through work orders. The Parts Room Clerk may assign PM and repair work orders to mechanics as directed by the Shop Foreman. Additionally, the clerk resolves log-in and log-out errors in the paperless shop system for pump mechanics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform duties of a parts room clerk by ordering, receiving, and putting parts in their locations as shown in the RTA software system.

2. Place part number tags on parts when they are received.

3. Monitor inventory levels to minimize stock outs and avoid excess inventory levels.

4. Generate requisitions for review by shop foreman, produce PO’s, and order parts upon shop foremen approval.

5. Perform inventory counts and provide reports as needed.

6. Identify obsolete stock; remove it from inventory, and dispose of it as directed.

7. Maintain the part areas, shelves, and bins in a clean and orderly manner.

8. Monitor the PM schedule in the RTA system, coordinate with dispatch when the PM’s can be performed, and generate work orders for the pending PM’s.

9. Assign work orders to mechanics as directed by shop foremen.

10. Review and close work orders as directed by shop foremen.

11. Enter times, parts used, and any other data into work orders when work is done by a mechanic who does not have access to the RTA system, examples would be mechanics on service trucks, or when outside work is performed.

12. Respond to shop phone calls, take messages and relay the information as needed in a timely and accurate manner.

13. File driver reports and other reports as directed by shop foremen.

14. Correct paperless shop log-in and log-out times in the RTA system.

15. Run end of period reports in the RTA system.

16. Clean vehicles, trucks, pumpers, and other equipment as assigned.

17. Audit Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports generated by Drivers.

18. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

1. Mechanical aptitude with an understanding of repair or machine shop operations.

2. Strong PC and software skills.

3. Keyboard entry accuracy.

4. Ability to multitask and prioritize work loads in a varying work environment.

5. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

6. Good organizational skills.

7. Knowledge of Schwing, Putzmeister, and Reed pumper parts and systems is desirable

8. Knowledge of RTA software system is desirable.

Physical and Work Environment Demands

1. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, kneel, and sometimes reach to heights of seven feet constantly during the work period.

2. Must be able to grasp and carry items. May be required to lift, drag, or push heavy objects weighing 50 or more pounds.

3. Must be able to work alone at times and to work closely with others at other times.

4. Must have the ability to speak and hear at normal levels and in normal tones.

5. Must be able to converse well on the phone and be able to take written messages for others.

6. Must be able to see and read small letters and numbers at close range and to see shelf and bin markings at moderate distances.

7. Must be able to work in hot, cold, damp, dusty, or noisy environments.

8. Will be exposed to mechanical, arc welder, and chemical hazards as well as moving vehicles and equipment. Situational awareness and caution is required at all times.
