Job Summary: Independently performs a variety of food service operations and supervision of kitchen staff and other duties as coordinated by management.

Kitchen Supervisor Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for all food service operations and day-to-day operations of the kitchen. Develops weekly menu including: assessing camper food allergies and providing food for vegetarians, vegans, omnivores, gluten-free campers

Provides direction to kitchen staff, ensuring execution of all employee duties. Oversees and approves training and development of kitchen staff, reviews time cards

Monitors kitchen operations to ensure compliance with health and fire department regulations.

Ensures compliance with state, federal, and local food handling requirements and standards.Ensures products are stored at the correct temperatures , daily temp check logs completed.

Responsible for implementation and management of kitchen policies and procedures throughout scheduled shifts.

Completes the duties of a cook as needed, and is willing and able to perform the duties of all kitchen positions.

Organizes and participates in the inventory process.

Anticipates, identifies, and corrects any issues with inventory, systems, and staffing. Anticipates and adjusts to fill in when staffing changes are needed, recognizes camp job duties are subjected to time and occupancy and kitchen staff will be floated to other areas.

Monitors costs to achieve cost reduction and assessment within camp policies and procedures.

Participates in the hiring process by conducting interviews and making hiring recommendations.

Provides real-time, in- the -moment feedback to employees. Assists with 90-day and annual reviews

Demonstrates positive communication and interactions with other staff, housemates and guests

If housing is provided on site, maintains space cleanliness and tidy living space and consideration of other housemates.

Communicates and attends regular meetings as asked by leadership and housemates

Interactions with guests in a positive, upbeat manner is essential

Maintains compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Camp standards are always met

Work Hours & Benefits Weekend-only camps (Oct-March) means considerable time off during winter months. Meals included on days worked. Potential for free housing on-site. May require extra hours during week-long camps. 20 hours of sick pay annually. 40 hours vacation.

Kitchen Manager Qualifications/Skills:

Customer service - People management, fostering teamwork, and giving feedback

Planning and multi-tasking

Developing budgets

Self-motivated with a high energy level

Conflict resolution

Verbal communication

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

High school diploma or GED

5+ years of hospitality-related experience

3+ years of kitchen manager or leadership experience

Current food handler’s card and other certification as required by federal/state/local law

Comfortable using a computer, navigating standard office

First Aid and CPR certifications preferable

If housing is provided on site, maintains standards of cleanliness, sanitation and tidy living space. Demonstrates consideration of other housemate and adherence to household expectations such as evening quiet hours and cleaning of shared space.

Maintains compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Camp standards are always met

Physical Requirements:

Physical ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.

Some physical requirements of the position require endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, reaching, stretching, and walking long distances

Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate equipment or to assist with camp facilities projects

Willing to work irregular hours infrequently

Daily exposure to the sun/heat

Possible exposure to animals, bugs, snakes, etc. normally found in a wilderness camp setting

Ability to drive

Ability shovel snow for several hours at a time
