GRP is a hybrid experience of real-world industry work experience combined with development programming that exposes students to Boeing, its products and services and its people. GRP focuses on deeply connecting students to their team and Boeing through repeated work experience across multiple summers with the goal to ultimately offer a full-time position at the conclusion of academic studies if a mutual fit is achieved.How GRP Works:Upon application and selection, successful applicants are matched with an intern experience and team related to their area of expertise. The program aims to provide interns with a valuable opportunity to gain deeper experience at Boeing and with their assigned team, while also utilizing academic skills and expertise to help solve real-world industry challenges and opportunities.In addition to industry work exposure, GRP students will attend GRP programming to extend their experience and knowledge at Boeing. GRP programming includes: mentorship in your field of study, weekly Featured Speaker Talks, a week-long in-person GRP Summit, participation in an Innovation Challenge, and other opportunities to interact and build a professional network with other GRP students, Boeing team members, and leadership.Please note: The work you do at Boeing can be related to your area of study, but will not contribute to the work in your PhD thesis.Who we are looking for:We are seeking students who will have completed their first year of study in their PhD program by July 2025 and are passionate about the aerospace industry and Boeing. Above all, they are driven to contribute to the success of their team, fellow GRP students, and Boeing.Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) is looking for a highly capable Graduate Research Engineer to join our Structures Technology team. The position is focused on one or more of the following areas: Structural Dynamics, Loads, Aeroelasticity including advanced nonlinear aeroelasticity, Structural Multi-disciplinary Optimization, or Mechanical Systems Design and Analysis including multi-body dynamics.We advance the state of the art in methods and tools for structural analysis. We accelerate the qualification and certification of new materials and structures. Our highly capable engineers excel in a team environment of challenge and opportunity on multiple projects, and partnering with Boeing business units, government customers, global suppliers, and universities to rapidly mature key technologies to production readiness.This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.Travel: 0 – 10%This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.These positions require the ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start may be required.Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.Basic Qualifications for all positions (Required Skill/Experience):

The ability to work a minimum of 10 weeks (12 weeks preferred) during the summer of 2025.

Completed the first year of your PhD studies by July 2025.

Pursuing a PhD in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with engineering and design software such as MatLab, Finite Element Analysis (Abaqus, LS-Dyna, etc.), COMSOL, CAD/3D packages (NX, CATIA, etc.), a plus.

Familiarity with aeroelastic analysis processes, tools, and modeling for static and dynamic loads (maneuver, gust, buffet, ground, landing, etc.) and dynamic instabilities (flutter, LCO, etc.).

Experience with vehicle level sizing and optimization, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), aeroservoelasticity (ASE), multi-body dynamics (MBD), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), ground and flight testing.

Development of mechanical test requirements and plans may be required.

An understanding of aerospace structural concepts and architectures is desired.

Potential problems of interest are new methodologies and tools to improve the efficiency and accuracy in aeroelastic, structural dynamics, mechanism and system simulation for spacecraft and aircraft structures.
