Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable driver to operate roll-off trucks with trailers in the solid waste and recycling industry. This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and involves the safe transport of waste and recyclable materials using roll-off containers to and from customer sites and transfer stations, throughout Northern Humboldt County.
In addition to roll-off containers, this position will require transportation of liquid waste from the landfill to the waste water treatment plant using a tanker trailer. CDL with tanker endorsement is preferred, or the ability to acquire the necessary endorsement within 90 days of hire.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate roll-off truck and transfer trailer
Load and unload roll-off containers (20–40 yards) using appropriate equipment and tarping systems
Transport waste and recycling materials to transfer stations and treatment plan
Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any safety or maintenance issues
Ensure loads are properly secured and tarped according to DOT and company requirements
Maintain accurate logs, manifests, and trip documentation
Communicate clearly with customers and dispatch regarding service times, container placement, and jobsite conditions
Adhere to all company safety procedures and environmental policies
May assist with container placement, staging, and minor maintenance tasks as needed
Requirements:
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Required
Minimum 1 year of driving experience
Experience with roll-off systems, transfer trailers, and/or end-dumps preferred
Tanker endorsement preferred, otherwise acquired within 90 days of hire
Clean driving record and current DOT medical certificate
Working knowledge of California and federal transportation laws
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform duties in outdoor environments
Strong communication skills and customer service mindset
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. regularly
Frequent climbing onto and off of trucks and trailers
Manual tarping and un-tarping of containers is required
Physically demanding; Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and stand for extended periods
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold)
Must be able to safely operate in environments with uneven ground, tight spaces, or heavy equipment traffic
Shifts may include occasional overtime, weekends, or holidays
Operation of equipment on rough terrain and on rural highways and roads
