Two Feathers NAFS is looking for a friendly and engaging individual who enjoys working with youth ages 16 to 18 years old. We are looking for someone with at least 2 years of experience working with youth.

Two Feathers, a tribally chartered nonprofit of Big Lagoon Rancheria, provides behavioral health and culture-based prevention services. Two Feathers mission is to empower Native American youth and their families to achieve their full potential by offering culturally affirming mental health and wellness programs in Humboldt County. Two Feathers serves all self-identified Native American Youth and their families in Humboldt County.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Program Manager or Director, the Youth Development Specialist supervises and mentors small work pods of four to six Youth Ambassadors (16-18 years old) to offer opportunities for youth to gain and develop skills, support connections with their peers and community, and to grow as an individual. The Youth Development Specialist will facilitate wellness groups, engage in program events and activities, and provide 1:1 relational support and intensive case management for Youth Ambassadors, aligned with the program logic model. The Youth Development Specialist will assist with program evaluation with the Youth Ambassadors.

YOUTH AMBASSADOR FACILITATOR: 70%

- Supervise and mentor Youth Ambassadors, which includes weekly 1:1 meetings, transportation support, supporting youth in setting and achieving goals, coaching, training, and leadership skills development.

- Support and mentor Youth Ambassadors in building peer-to-peer mentorship and cultural skills.

- Attend Leadership Program meetings, 1:1 supervision, and other required Two Feathers staff meetings and trainings.

- Maintain all reporting and documentation required of the Leadership Program, groups, individual clients, etc.

- Build relationships with cultural consultants and community partners.

- Flexible schedule: Works with youth in the evenings after school and on weekends, when necessary.

- Overnight travel for out-of-town trips with Youth Ambassadors may be required.

- Safely transport youth to and from programming and work opportunities, throughout Humboldt

OUTREACH SUPPORT: 30%

- Develop positive youth relationships and community relationships in school and community settings as assigned.

- Facilitate groups and programming in school sites and in the community as assigned.

- Support the planning and facilitation of Two Feathers Events and Programming.

- Support community tabling and other outreach efforts as appropriate.

- Collaborate with other departments when supporting shared youth.

- Collaborate with community partners to support projects that require outreach and information about Two Feathers services.

- Complete all required documentation.

- Deliver and collect client satisfaction surveys when appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience: At least two years prior experience working with youth.

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

- Current driver’s license, in good standing.

- Fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Child Abuse Index.

- Must comply with a drug-free workplace.

- Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about local Native communities.

- Ability to work with Electronic Health Records is required

WORK CONDITIONS

- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds; pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds

- Stand for extended periods of time

- Sit for extended periods at a computer and driving in a vehicle.

- Ability to drive distances for up to 2 hours at one time.

- Must be available to work nights and weekends, as well as occasional overnight trips
