EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Executive Director
SUPERVISOR: Board of Directors
STATUS: Non-Exempt/30 hours per week
PAY RATE: $35-$45/ Hour DOE
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
Under the general direction of the Governing Board, and within state and federal laws and rules, collaboratively leads the agency. The Executive Director plans, administers, and guides the therapeutic programs in a manner that continually provides affordable counseling services to individuals, families, couples, and children, and is responsible
for executing the agency’s mission and vision, policy development, organizational
structure, program planning, fiscal management, administration, and operations.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates with the Governing Board to develop the vision for the agency including planning, developing, organizing, and guiding the implementation of the agency’s goals, objectives, policies, and work standards.
2. Works collaboratively with the Governing Board in developing programs and implementing systems to solve problems related to the functions of the agency relative to community needs.
3. Directs the preparation of the agency’s annual budget in accordance with the agency’s policy and procedures, presents the budget request to the Governing Board and monitors expenditures and revenues to ensure both are within approved levels.
4. Directs the coordination of the agency’s programs, plans operations to ensure efficient service delivery of counseling services in a manner which minimizes overlap and is efficient and effective and responsive to community needs.
5. Directs the selection, supervision and work evaluation of agency personnel and provides for staff training and professional development.
6. Directs the review and evaluation of changes in laws and regulations that could impact the delivery of services and advises the Governing Board of potential service delivery and financial impact of changes while ensuring compliance with changes in laws and regulations.
7. Prepares and recommends long-range plans for agency services and programs to enhance the delivery of services.
8. Represents the agency in meetings with representatives of state, federal and local agencies; to the media, civic and service groups, and others; facilitates coordination of dissemination of information about agency programs, promoting available services and programs.
9. Directs the preparation of and personally prepares a variety of reports for the Governing Board and others.
10. Serves as a liaison with the Governing Board, agency staff, and volunteer practicum student trainees of the agency.
11. Informs and advises the Governing Board regarding current trends, problems, and activities in the mental health care field to facilitate policymaking.
12. Participates in and coordinates the selection process of new Governing Board members as appropriate.
13. Directs the preparation of reports for and attends meetings with the Governing Board regarding the total activities of the agency.
14. Recruits, employs, counsels, evaluates, promotes, disciplines, and terminates executive management level staff and clinical staff in accordance with the personnel policies of the agency.
15. Provides for continuous development of new knowledge and skills among agency staff by identifying and ensuring that agency staff has access to seminars and workshops that facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills, exchange of ideas, and development of concepts related to staff needs.
16. Works with the Governing Board to develop and coordinates the long-range fund- raising strategy and efforts of the agency.
17. Continually seeks opportunities to refine skills in the field of counseling as well as in agency administration including finance, human resources, marketing, and strategic planning to develop, maintain and strengthen skills as the executive director.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Of:
1. Diplomatic and effective communication, building positive relationships, and developing others.
2. Applicable state and federal laws governing mental health and agency programs.
3. Principles and practices of agency budgeting, cost accounting, fiscal management, grants management and audit requirements.
4. Social and economic issues affecting the community.
5. Methods and techniques of research, statistical and management analysis. Skills In:

15. Building and maintaining positive professional working relationships with a variety of key community members, public and private organizations, boards, commissions, and public agency staff.
Other Requirements:
16. Holds a minimum of a bachelor's degree (psychology and business degrees preferred)
17. Extensive, demonstrated experience in nonprofit organizations and/or business management.
