Summary About the Position: About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities. Responsibilities Utilize hydraulic jacks to make repairs on vehicle. Test battery cell to ensure battery works properly. Use pressure gages and balance systems to diagnose and repair wheels/tires. Place boots and plugs in tire casings. Check fluid levels in braking systems to ensure heavy mobile equipment runs smoothly. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Please limit your resume to 5 pages. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Mobile Equipment Servicer (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) (Direct Hire Authority) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common including replacing parts such as rear-view mirrors, light bulbs, headlights, and doorknobs/handles. I can repair tires, change oil filters, and replace batteries. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT- The work requires prolonged standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and working in tiring positions. The incumbent frequently lifts and carries tires and other items weighing 50 to 75 pounds and occasionally heavier items. Moderate effort is required in operating hand and foot controls on assigned vehicle. Employee may frequently work at heights up to 6 meters (18 feet) above ground and underneath vehicles by use of a creeper. WORKING CONDITIONS- Work is generally performed inside on damp concrete and in areas that are dirty, oily, and greasy, but works outside when performing roadside service. Incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, or other injuries while removing tires from wheels and repairing tires. Gloves and goggles are worn as a safety precaution. Incumbent is exposed to fumes and is subject to acid burns when filling batteries with acid, and wears protective clothing such as rubber gloves, apron, and face shield to reduce t risk of exposure. The work involves exposure to noise levels above 85db (A) and requires the use of hearing protective device. The incumbent operates vehicle in all types of traffic and weather. The incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of driving accidents. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this job. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute education for experience. For this position, you must meet the experience requirements, no education substitution is allowed. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
