Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Shop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our equipment and material yard. This is a critical leadership role responsible for managing all company-owned equipment maintenance, supervising shop personnel (including mechanics and yard staff), maintaining accurate material and parts inventory, and ensuring the shop runs safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance & Fleet Management
Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance and repairs for all company-owned equipment (vehicles, heavy machinery, small tools).
Ensure proper recordkeeping for equipment logs, service histories, and inspections.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and coordinate with internal/external mechanics for timely repairs.
Shop Staff Oversight
Supervise and manage shop employees, including mechanics, drivers, and general laborers.
Assign tasks, monitor productivity, and enforce safety standards.
Provide training and direction to support employee development and accountability.
Inventory & Materials Management
Track and manage materials, parts, fuel, and consumables inventory.
Coordinate the procurement of supplies and maintain organized storage systems.
Implement systems to minimize loss and ensure availability of critical items.
Logistics & Yard Operations
Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant shop and yard environment.
Oversee equipment mobilization/demobilization logistics to project sites.
Assist with scheduling equipment deliveries and pickups in coordination with project teams.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in shop/fleet management or equipment maintenance in a construction or heavy industrial setting.
Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams and shop operations.
Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with construction equipment (diesel, hydraulic, electric).
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to implement systems and processes to improve efficiency.
Proficiency with inventory tracking software and maintenance management systems a plus.
Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
