High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions is required.

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR card is required.

Previous healthcare experience is preferred.

Learning proper lifting and transferring techniques when moving patients, using gurneys, wheelchairs and patient beds, lifting and transferring equipment and operating communication equipment are required.

ROLE SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES1.Transport patients, related customers and equipment to various nursing, treatment, and diagnostic areas throughout the Medical Center in a safe and efficient manner. Learn and maintain the required skill set in handling medical devices in preparation of patient transports; this includes and is not limited to Infusion pumps, chest tubes, hemovacs, vacuum pumps, JP drains, CPM Machines, PCA pumps, ect. Learn and maintain knowledge of the storage, sanitation, and functional maintenance of equipment; this includes but is not limited to gurneys, wheelchairs, beds, stretcher chairs, and other required accessories.

Report to healthcare providers at beginning and destination of transport. Verify mode of transportation, obtain required paperwork, equipment and documentation. Learn the Transport Tracking software and use of logging, receiving and recording transports using electronic handheld devices including cell phones and two-way radios.

Upon request, transport medications (excluding controlled substances) with the patient, ensuring proper security, handling and delivery to licensed staff.

Request and obtain instructions/assistance from appropriate healthcare staff when initiating or assisting in transfers.

Provide emergency assistance, when necessary, until proper staff can be notified, and assistance arrives.

Learn and comply with National Patient Safety Goals, including safe patient handling and mobility. This includes the use of FRD's (friction reducing devices) and other SPHM equipment.

Respond to SAMC codes as instructed.

Assist in training new employees, including other support and ancillary departments such as Imaging, CVDS, Endoscopy and Cath Lab.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide assistance appropriate to the age of the patients served within the unite.

Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances. Follow protocol for storage and sanitation of equipment. 11. Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill departmental administrative and operational needs including, but not limited to, answering phones, data and order entry, dispatching, and filing.
