Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1976 with the mission to “promote the healthy development of individuals and families, encourage service and volunteerism, and help build community.”Engaging Community in Advocacy and Policy (ECAP) is a division of BACR that facilitates community-based public health advocacy throughout the Bay Area. Within this, the Contra Costa County MEDS (Medication Education and Disposal Safety) Coalition is seeking applicants for an Americorps VISTA. The purpose of the coalition is to prevent prescription drug and related drug substance use disorder and fatal overdose through community education and policy change.This position will start on Monday, February 10, 2025.Benefits

$1,320.06 bi-weekly living stipend

$7,395 Segal education award or a $1,800 cash stipend, after the completion of one-year service

Requirements:Must be able to commit to a 12-month term (40 hours/week) and serve in-person in Contra Costa County. Relocation and a settling-in allowance are available.Ideal candidates are:

Interested in starting or pivoting to a career in public health.

Self-starters who want to work on community-based projects.

Willing and able to commit to a 12-month, full-time term of service.

Open to learning about the landscape of opioid use and overdose prevention in Contra Costa.

VISTAs will work on a hybrid (in-person and remote) schedule, with approximately 2 work days per week in-person at the BACR El Cerrito Office, and community events on an as-need basis throughout Contra Costa County.
