Learn more about the great things happening with MAAC athttp://www.maacproject.org/.DEFINITION Under direction, performs a full range of moderately difficult professional accounting and financial analysis in the preparation and maintenance of financial records, reports and systems; provides a basis for sound operational and financial planning through financial review, analysis, monitoring, reconciliation and maintenance of assigned financial accounts, programs and activities. The Accounting Supervisor assists in development of program budgets; manages and monitors financial planning activities for MAAC programs; may supervise and direct the work of a group of professional and technical accounting staff and performs related duties as assigned. Assignments require the use of independent judgment on issues that are complex, interpretive, and evaluative in nature. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Performs complex and technical accounting work in the maintenance and analysis of records of revenues, expenditures and special program/project funds; prepare analyses, schedules, journal vouchers and reconciliation to produce periodic financial reports in accordance with GAAP and other applicable accounting standards; makes recommendations and calculates allocation of program costs; analyzes cost data and prepares project accounting reports; reconciles major postings to source documents; audits and processes a variety of accounting documents.
Finalizes the monthly financial closing process and generates month-end consolidated and program-specific reports.
Prepares projections of revenues, budget estimates and supporting schedules; monitors and reports on budget and revenue account status; reviews and processes requests for budget adjustments; develops databases and analyses financial information; answers questions and compiles special reports for program and departmental use in budget tracking and reporting.
Assists independent auditors with their annual audit of the agency; prepares specials analyses and schedules; research issues that are raised by the outside audit team; monitors, follows up and reports on implementation of auditor findings; ensures all required audit deadlines are met.
Ensures timely completion of financial reports required by various regulatory agencies and financial institutions.
Conducts special analyses or investigations at the request of senior management; prepares reports, spreadsheets and other documents and findings; conducts internal department and program audits, as assigned.
Advises and assists staff of other departments in conducting queries and generating special reports; designs and creates custom financial reports.
Assists program management in preparing and submitting program budgets for outside funding requests, reviews actual program expenses against approved budgets.
Reconciles accounts receivable and accounts payable subsidiary ledgers to MAAC’s G/L.
Ensures proper accounting for all expenditures and revenues in accordance with GAAP and GASB.
Evaluates specialized information and data; provides recommendations on a wide array of financial matters; conducts fiscal analyses and prepares cost projections; advises on availability of funds for programs; stays current and well informed on new legislation and applicable laws and regulations; interprets and explains complex regulations, laws, and guidelines
Assists with the maintenance of records to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with all appropriate standards, laws, rules, regulations and policies.
Provides responsive, high-quality service to MAAC employees, representatives of outside agencies and members of the public by providing accurate, complete and up-to-date information, in a courteous, efficient and timely manner.
Supervise and/or provide guidance to other Fiscal staff
Prepares supporting schedules for rental income; reviews monthly rent rolls.
Conducts property accounting closings and reconciliations, including preparation of accruals and maintains supporting documents; closes accounts payable and accounts receivable commercial management modules to the G/L at the end of each month.
Prepares and distributes monthly property financial reports; prepares monthly journal entries, financial statements and bank reconciliations; prepares monthly gross potential rent vacancy and allowance schedules and reconciles to the G/L.
Maintains property cash balances and ensures timely payment of mortgages and taxes.
Actively participates in leadership development training groups.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Accounting, Finance or related field.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience
Expert skill level in Excel; Microsoft certified in Excel preferred.
Experience with non-profit accounting preferred.
Experience with Yardi and MIP Fund Accounting System preferred.
