We are a telecom construction company based out of CA, OR, and WA looking for an experienced Directional Drill Locator to join our team in Chico. This role is responsible for guiding horizontal directional drilling operations for the installation of underground conduit and utilities. Must be able to use locating equipment to track the drill head, maintain bore profile plots, and help plan safe drill paths around existing infrastructure. We're looking for someone who takes safety seriously, communicates well in the field, and enjoys hands-on work with a crew that works hard and respects each other.
This position requires prior experience with HDD locating systems and a solid understanding of ground conditions, tolerances, and safe worksite operations. A valid driver’s license is required. A CDL Class A is a plus and may be required depending on the project.

Job Responsibilities
-Operate HDD locating equipment to guide drill head accurately
-Read and interpret utility locates, engineered bore plans, and site maps
-Maintain bore profile logs and communicate progress to customers or supervisors
-Assist in planning bores around existing utilities, ensuring safe clearances
-Understand and apply bend radius/tolerance limits for conduit or steel pipe
-Perform general labor duties as needed and support setup/cleanup of job sites
-Ensure public and jobsite safety and maintain professionalism on-site
-Obtain prints and permits from supervisor or project lead before starting work
-Limit jobsite return trips by planning for full completion each day
-Operate and maintain tools/equipment safely and effectively
Requirements
-2+ years of directional drilling and locating experience (urban experience preferred)
-Proficiency using locating systems such as DCI or Underground Magnetics
-Wireline system experience is a plus
-Strong understanding of ground conditions and bore planning
-Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs regularly (up to 100 lbs as needed)
-Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
-Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
-CDL Class A is a plus and may be required
-Strong communication and teamwork skills
-Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
