What you will be doing in this role:Under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist, the Senior Radiation Therapist is a competent Allied Health Professional who performs simulations and administers radiation treatments as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist. The Senior Radiation Therapist serves as a leader at the assigned treatment machine and/or service, ensuring that equipment is maintained and functioning properly, including warm-up procedures and quality assurance. The Senior Radiation Therapist uses appropriate decision-making skills required to independently and safely manage the assigned treatment machine and/or service, ensuring that schedule is efficient and timely. The Senior Radiation Therapist also performs technical in-services for Radiation Therapists to develop skills and provides clinic leadership in absent of Lead or Chief Therapist. Your duties will include:
Performs accurate and efficient radiation therapy treatment simulations as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist. This includes proper use of simulator, fabrication of immobilization devices and various treatment devices such as bite block and custom bolus cut outs.
Delivers accurate, efficient, and reproductible radiation therapy treatment as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist and as indicated in the treatment plan. This includes operation of linear accelerator, verifying treatment plan prior to treatment, proper patient positioning, and monitoring of patient during procedure.
Serves as point of contact for Radiation Therapy equipment and workflow questions and concerns at assigned machine. Leads and directs work effort for machine downtime, including rescheduling and communication. Escalates to Lead Therapist as needed. Covers Lead Therapist tasks when needed.
Trains new staff members on machine-specific workflows. Gives advice to Radiation Therapist with complicated treatment set up.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives, ensures quality standards are met at assigned machine, develops new processes and workflows for Lead Therapist/Chief Therapist to review.
QualificationsEducation:
Graduate of an ARRT approved Radiation Therapy program required
Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy preferred
Certifications/Licensure:
California Therapeutic Radiation Technologist Certification required
American Registry of Radiologic Technology Certification required
BLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of technical experience as a Radiation Therapist required
3 years of experience with sub-specialized skillset required
