About the Role: Small Group Instructor/teacher
Kern Tutoring is seeking experienced tutors, credential candidates, or fully credentialed teachers to provide high-impact, small-group instruction in a school setting. The small group instructor will develop lesson plans that align with appropriate academic standards, facilitate lessons for groups of 5–15 students across multiple subjects, with a focus on Math and English Language Arts (ELA). Additionally, the instructor will attend planning meetings, conduct assessments, and collect relevant student achievement data.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates will have prior experience in tutoring or teaching, and are either currently enrolled in an accredited teaching credential program or already hold a valid teaching credential. Successful candidates will be creative, enthusiastic, and skilled at delivering engaging lessons that cultivate a fun, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. While collaboration and teamwork are essential, candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work independently, take initiative, and lead instruction with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
● Deliver Math and ELA instruction
● Develop lesson plans
● Effectively communicate with students, teachers, parents, and administrators
● Conduct student assessment and collect data
● Other duties as necessary: attend training, decorate classrooms, curriculum prep, etc.

Qualifications
1. One or more years of experience teaching small and large groups of students
2. Be able to travel to school site(s) in Bakersfield and surrounding towns.
3. Commit to a minimum of 9 months (Sept 1, 2025 - May 2026)
4. Previous tutoring or teaching experience with a focus on Math and ELA is preferred.
Requirements
1. Pass a criminal background check
2. Clear Tuberculosis Test
3. Bachelor's degree, enrolled in a teacher credential program or higher
4. Must be available between the times of 8 AM - 3 PM, Monday - Friday

Compensation & Other Details
$27.00 -32.00/hr
Based on education and experience
Estimated total work hours per week: 30-36 hours per week.
