All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law. Position InformationClass Code: P003NGrade: GS12FLSA Status: EXEMPTSalary Range: $69,776.00 - $101,175.00SummaryThe Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) Public Information Officer is responsible for representing the department in disseminating information and establishing positive relations with the public and the media. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.FunctionsSupervises a small support staff by interviewing and recommending applicants for hire, training employees, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating the work of incumbents. Provides information to the director and staff on departmental issues, programs, and problems, and provides advice on possible resolutions. Develops and recommends new methods and procedures to improve the effectiveness of inter-agency communication. Receives and gathers information on all departmental matters and contacts appropriate individuals to clarify, confirm, or obtain additional information as needed. Attends meetings, hearings, and legislative functions as a representative of the department and the director to exchange information concerning departmental matters with the public and its officials and to monitor legislative activities and decisions affecting departmental operations. Coordinates media coverage for significant departmental programs or emergency events to ensure the accuracy and completeness of information. Coordinates facility tours for various groups and organizations and leads tours as requested.
