Description/Job SummaryThis position is responsible for helping assist the Mortgage Underwriter with underwriting mortgage loans in a safe, sound, accurate and compliant manner while providing excellent customer service; also participates in business development activities on behalf of the bank.Responsibilities/Duties
Assist with reviewing potential borrowers' credit worthiness, including evaluating debt-to-income ratio and reviewing credit history and score to ensure they meet agency guidelines. This duty is performed daily.
Assist with verifying funds used for down payments and closing fees to ensure they are available and review the last few months of applicants' bank statements, asking for clarification on any large deposits. Assist with verifying applicants have two or more months of reserves after closing. This duty is performed daily.
Assist with reviewing the value and appraisal of the property related to the mortgage application. This duty is performed daily.
Assist with verifying that the loan meets investor, federal and state government, and mortgage insurance company guidelines. This duty is performed daily.
Coordinate with the Mortgage Underwriter to implement and/or change policies and procedures to accommodate investor guidelines. This duty is performed as needed.
Participate in activities for generating new business, such as sales calls and special events. This duty is performed daily.
Make referrals to other departments, including new accounts, Treasury Management, lending, insurance, trust and financial services. This duty is performed daily.
Represent the bank in community affairs and civic organizations. This duty is performed as needed.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Required QualificationsKnowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, computer, etc. Equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of college, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, and 1 to 6 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of mortgage loan processing or pre-underwriting experience required. Computer usage required.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred. FHA, VA and Fannie Mae underwriting/processing experience strongly preferred. Must provide excellent customer service consistent with Farmers Advantage Customer Service standards to external and internal customers.
