Position InformationClass Code: M068CGrade: GS05FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPTSalary Range: $32,405.00 - $46,987.00SummaryThe Child Support Specialist I is responsible for coordinating staff activities, investigating, documenting, and initiating actions on child support cases, locating parents to establish and enforce court-ordered child support payments, and investigating child support delinquency cases. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.FunctionsConducts investigations for alleged child support delinquencies by reviewing cases, interviewing custodial parents, and contacting employers, neighbors, and landlords to obtain information required to identify and locate a non-custodial parent. Utilizes electronic location data to assist in the identification and location of non-custodial parents and employers in order to enforce child support obligations. Initiates notices/letters to customers, employers, and other state and federal agencies to obtain or provide information relating to the enforcement of child support obligations, and provides follow up correspondence and/or telephone calls as necessary. May coordinate the work activities of lower-level para-professional and administrative support staff by assigning and monitoring work, developing work plans, disseminating and interpreting policies and procedures, and presenting in-service training. Monitors the collection and posting of monies to individual accounts for clients and calculates and verifies child support arrears based on the obligation ordered by the court and payments made by the non-custodial parent by obtaining an affidavit. Implements wage assignments, income withholdings, and installment agreements for the collection of child support, negotiates with a non-custodial parent within agency guidelines to obtain an installment agreement for the payment of delinquent child support, and determines if legal actions and/or license suspension is appropriate in order to obtain payment of child support. Conducts reviews of court orders in order to determine if a modification of the child support obligation is appropriate. Prepares for and testifies at legal proceedings regarding the enforcement of child support obligations.
