This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.FunctionsSupervises a small skilled-crafts and protective service staff by interviewing, recommending hire, providing training, assigning and reviewing work, counseling, terminating, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Supervises and trains inmates in graphic arts, furniture making, and furniture upholstery, including providing safety and equipment instruction, issuing tools, printing ink and chemicals, and assigning work. Evaluates equipment needs and writes specifications to obtain bids. Conducts market survey to establish prices of new or current products. Reviews customer work request for completeness and special instructions and notifies customers of delays, errors, or problems with orders. Computes cost estimates for finished product and quotes prices to prospective customers. Inventories on-site materials and requisitions supplies as needed.
