Position Summary
The Thrift Store Associate & Inventory Specialist supports the daily operations of the ReSources Vail Depot Thrift Store by processing incoming donations, preparing items for sale, assisting customers, and supporting volunteers in their tasks. This entry-level role focuses on hands-on inventory management and helping maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Store Operations
Assist with opening and closing procedures as scheduled.
Greet and assist customers with merchandise selection and purchases.
Operate the cash register and handle basic sales transactions.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional retail space.
Assist volunteers in understanding store procedures and tasks.
Identify and manage inventory for sale through eBay or other online sales opportunities
Other tasks as necessary
Inventory Intake & Processing
Accept, sort, and process incoming donations.
Lift, carry, and move donated items, including furniture and boxes (up to 50 lbs regularly).
Assist volunteers as they clean, price, and prepare items for the sales floor.
Identify high-end, quality, and vintage items using Google Lens, eBay, and other online sources.
Organize inventory in back stock and ensure proper rotation to sales areas.
Set up displays and restock merchandise as needed.
Customer Service & Support
Provide friendly and respectful service to customers and donors.
Offer assistance with donations at the drop-off area and help load/unload items.
Answer basic questions about store policies and promotions.
Qualifications
Ability to learn and use basic technology
Retail, resale, or donation intake experience is a plus
Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse team of staff and volunteers
Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude
Skills Required
Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds
Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods
Basic math and communication skills for operating a cash register and pricing tools
Willingness to learn and take direction from supervisors
Physical Requirements
Regular lifting and physical movement of items (30–50 lbs)
Frequent bending, standing, and reaching
Able to work outside in a shaded area for periods throughout the day
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, sometimes physically demanding environment
