Director, External AffairsCORE VALUES STATEMENT Turner Staffing Group is partnered with a dynamic, fast-growing, global mining company that is seeking a Director, External Affairs to support our Copper World and Mason Projects. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, United States Business Unit, the Director, External Affairs will be leading the organization's public relations and government relations (US federal, state, and local).This role will be located at the regional head office in Tucson, Arizona, and will be required to travel locally as well as internationally, to other business units and the Toronto Corporate office.ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:Government Affairs

Oversee all governmental affairs work related to the Copper World and Mason Projects including federal legislative and regulatory matters, state legislative and regulatory matters, and County and City agenda items, resolutions, etc.

Direct the work of contracted lobbyists to monitor state and federal legislative proposals and support/oppose proposed legislation as appropriate based on impacts to the Project.

Lead creation and implementation of strategies for government relations in furtherance of advancing the Copper World and Mason Projects. Advise senior leadership team on outreach and activities.

Represent the organization at public meetings, hearings, and other events, as appropriate.

Lead the implementation of a forward-looking and highly effective US federal, state, and local government relations strategy.

Serve as primary lead on advocating for issues before the legislature, state agencies, and the Governor's office in collaboration with department team.

Develop materials in support of Copper World's government relations agenda, such as talking points, legislative summaries, factsheets, testimony, reports, and letters.

Perform research and data mining to evaluate issues on the federal, state, or local level that may impact the industry.

Work closely with senior staff to advance strategic priorities, anticipate issues, respond to opportunities, identify project needs, build strong relationships with stakeholders, and manage deadlines.

Ensure effective corporate governance through the implementation of company policies and procedures.

Communications / Public Relations Duties:

Develop and implement communications policy, strategy, and tactics for the Copper World and Mason Projects, in coordination with the communications team and consistent with the organization's Strategic Plan regarding communications.

Prepare statements and responses to media inquiries on the Copper World and Mason Project for approval by VP USBU.

Use existing social media channels to distribute content supportive of the Copper World and Mason Projects; ensure that the organization has a strong and active presence on social media platforms as well as all traditional communication and marketing platforms.

Ensure that the advocacy and other work of the organization is appropriately communicated, both internally and externally, achieving organizational goals.

Develop and strengthen relationships with community organizations and leaders and respond to questions and complaints from community members and neighbors.

Allocate community giving budget between association memberships, event sponsorships, scholarships, and other donations; track and document charitable contributions.

Evaluate yearly contributions and community impact.

Gather and organize data for Sustainability reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

Education: Bachelor's degree in government affairs, public relations, law, communications or related field.

Ten (10) years of experience working in a strategic communications or external affairs role in a large mission-driven organization, government agency, or environment of similar size and complexity.

Three (3) years leading and supervising direct report staff.

Well-developed interpersonal skills, as well as being flexible and adaptable to fast-changing priorities.

Excellent communication skills.

Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ability to influence and drive change across diverse stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

Master's degree in communications or public relations.
