Summary: Under general supervision, performs complex maintenance and repair work on vehicles, equipment and other motorized machinery; diagnoses and troubleshoots problems, and determines ap-propriate repairs; and performs routine and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls all City vehicles and trucks; works on gasoline engines, carburetors and fuel injection systems, transmissions and differentials, electrical systems, brakes and hydraulic systems and air conditioning units; tests and adjusts engines and suspension systems.
Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls heavy equipment; works on diesel engines, air compressors and governors, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, air conditioning units and cooling, fuel, braking and steering systems.
Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls small engines, generators, chain saws, mowers, weed eaters and similar equipment.
Repairs and replaces tires.
Organizes work to keep public safety and front line vehicles operational; coordinates work schedules with City departments.
Observes all safety rules and regulations in completing repair work; inspects vehicles and equipment to ensure that they are safe to operate when repairs are completed.
Maintains records for work performed; expedites parts and supplies complete repairs on a timely basis.
Performs emergency repairs to vehicles and equipment in the field.
Performs emergency repairs of equipment or machinery requiring overtime and/or call outs, participates in twenty-four hour on call standby duty.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
